A New Version Of Eternatus VMAX - Poison Eternatus! | Pokemon TCG

Ever since its release, Eternatus VMAX has proven to be a very strong card & mostly saw play with just Galarian Zigzagoon & Scoop Up Nets. But recently, a new version of the deck has started to take over & that is Poison Eternatus VMAX! This deck uses poison cards like Toxicroak & Galarian Slowbro V to inflict poison onto your opponent to help in many matchups! Let's look at a list and break it down!

Toxicroak - 124/202 - Sword & Shield - Holo | Card Cavern TCGs

We want to max out on the Toxicroak line with this list while having some decent disruption like with Reset Stamp & 4 Marnie! The whole idea of using Toxicroak to add extra damage is so that Eternatus VMAX can reach OHKOs a lot easier on certain Pokémon. With 2-3 Toxicroak in play, you are doing enough damage to OHKO VMAXs; with 2 Toxicroak in play, you can do 320 damage, which allows you to KO Centiskorch VMAX & even when you get 3 Toxicroaks in play, you can KO an Eternatus VMAX in one hit! We use Galarian Slowbro V to inflict Poison on our opponent & then we use Dark City or Switch to move the Slowbro V from the active spot! Dark City is a stadium card where it allows you to retreat your basic dark Pokémon for free!

Galarian Slowbro V - 99/189 - Darkness Ablaze | Card Cavern TCGs

Having Toxicroak & Slowbro V also lets you play passive sometimes when you can't win without Poison like Altaria or Decidueye! Being able to passively do even just 50 damage with poison can also be good at just forcing your opponent to either retreat or switch out of the poison as it can turn into 100 damage going back into your turn. This can allow the Eternatus deck where you're usually attaching an energy to an Eternatus V/VMAX because you have to manually attach to Eternatus to attack the following turn, you are still applying a bit of pressure and damage onto the board! This is a bit bigger of an advantage over the Zigzagoon/Scoop Up Net build!

This deck's biggest hurdle will always be decks that can deny you energy; many decks right now are running Crushing Hammer, which can really hurt & slow down your Eternatus VMAX since you don't have a good energy acceleration system. But suppose your opponent is not removing your energy, and you're consistently attaching energy every turn and getting your Toxicroaks in play. In that case, this deck is pretty strong and can take out nearly everything in the active spot! One other thing to note is that this deck plays 4 Marnie and 3 Research. The whole idea behind a lower draw supporter count is obviously because we have 4 Crobat V in the deck to help us draw cards every turn while powering up Eternatus VMAX!

Having Marnie & Reset Stamp is important here to keep limiting your opponent's resources, like taking away their switches or their energy. Reset stamp to 1 can be possible with this deck as there may be times where your opponent KOs an Eternatus VMAX, then a Slowbro V/Crobat V, and you can get a strong Stamp to 1 of which can easily help you win games! Some other builds of the Poison Eternatus deck use Crushing Hammers to help in Eternatus Mirror matchups and slow your opponent down more since you are also slow. Some other inclusions in this deck can be Garbodor, Crushing Hammer, Bird Keeper/Mallow & Lana, 2nd Reset Stamp & Spiritomb!

With this Poison build of Eternatus VMAX showing promise as a strong Eternatus contender, we will most likely continue to see more unique Eternatus VMAX builds pop up and make names for themselves as there quite a few Dark-type partners you can play in Eternatus!
